iHow it is calculated
The start time is subtracted from the end time, then the break minutes. The result is shown in hours and minutes and in decimal hours; shifts crossing midnight are handled automatically:
hours worked = (end − start) − break
09:00–17:30 with a 60-min break = 7 hours 30 minutes = 7.5 hours decimal. At 50/hour: 375.

?Frequently asked questions
How do I calculate hours worked in a day?
Enter the start time, end time and break minutes. For example, 09:00–17:30 with a 60-minute break = 7 hours 30 minutes worked (7.5 decimal hours).
How is the lunch break subtracted?
The break minutes are subtracted from the gross span. For an 8-hour-30 interval with a 60-minute break, 7 hours 30 minutes worked remain.
What are decimal hours?
It is the duration as a decimal number: 7 hours 30 minutes = 7.5 hours. The decimal form is used for timesheets and pay (hours × rate).
How do night shifts (past midnight) work?
If the end time is earlier than the start (e.g. 22:00–06:00), the calculator assumes the shift crosses into the next day and automatically adds 24 hours.
How do I calculate daily pay?
Enter the hourly rate; pay = decimal hours × rate. At 7.5 hours and 50/hour that is 375.
How many hours are in a full-time day?
In Romania the standard is 8 hours a day and 40 hours a week. You can check whether a day meets the norm by comparing the result with 8 hours.
Does it differ from overtime?
Yes. This calculator gives the actual hours worked; overtime is the part exceeding the norm and may be paid at a premium, computed separately.
What is the work-hours calculator used for?
Timesheets, attendance sheets, billing work by the hour, freelancing and checking daily or per-shift pay.
