Splitting equally is simplest but not always fairest. If the differences are large, work out what each person ordered separately and add the tip proportionally.

Between friends who consumed roughly the same, an equal split is quick and accepted. For very different consumption, splitting by orders is fairer.

You can round the per-person amount up to fully cover the bill and leave a small surplus as a tip. Rounding down may leave a shortfall.

A fair approach is to remove the alcoholic drinks from the bill, split the rest equally, and add each person’s individual alcohol back to those who ordered it.
