Find how many days, weeks, months and years are between two dates — with total hours and working days.
iHow it is calculated
The difference between two dates is found by counting the days elapsed between them. The result is given both in years/months/days and in total days, weeks and hours, accounting for leap years:
difference = end date − start date
Between 1 January 2026 and 31 December 2026 there are 364 days = 52 weeks, i.e. 8,736 hours.
?Frequently asked questions
How do I calculate how many days are between two dates?
Enter the start and end date; the calculator instantly shows the difference in days, plus weeks, months and years. For example, between 1 January 2026 and 31 December 2026 there are 364 days.
Does the difference include the first and last day?
The standard calculation counts the days elapsed between the dates (the difference), so it does not include both endpoints. If you need the total calendar days including both ends, add 1 to the result.
How is the difference in years, months and days worked out?
You subtract the year first, then the month, then the day, borrowing from the higher unit when needed. The result reads “X years, Y months, Z days”, the most natural form for ages and seniority.
How many weeks are between two dates?
Divide the total days by 7. The result shows full weeks plus the remaining days — for example 30 days = 4 weeks and 2 days.
How many hours are between two dates?
Multiply the number of days by 24. For 10 days that is 240 hours. Useful for billing, shifts or deadlines expressed in hours.
What are the working days in the result?
They are the Monday-to-Friday days in the interval, excluding Saturdays and Sundays. For public holidays, use the dedicated working-days calculator.
Does the calculator account for leap years?
Yes. Leap years (with 29 February) are handled automatically, so the day count is exact even when the interval crosses 29 February.
Can I calculate the difference from today?
Yes. Set today as the start or end, or use the “Days until…” and “Days since…” calculators, which take the current date automatically.
What is the date difference used for?
Work seniority, project duration, warranty periods, contract deadlines, holiday days, or simple curiosity — how many days have passed since an event.
