iHow it is calculated
From the town’s coordinates (latitude, longitude) and the chosen date, the Sun’s position in the sky is computed. Sunrise and sunset are when the Sun’s centre is at −0.833° to the horizon, and dawn/dusk at −6° (civil), −12° (nautical) and −18° (astronomical):
day length = sunset − sunrise
In Bucharest, on 10 July 2026, the Sun rises around 05:41 and sets at 21:02 — a day of over 15 hours. Pick another town or date for your own times.

?Frequently asked questions
How do I find today’s sunrise and sunset time?
Pick the country, region and town; the date defaults to today. The calculator instantly shows sunrise and sunset, plus the twilights, computed from the town’s geographic coordinates.
What are civil, nautical and astronomical dawn and dusk?
They are the twilight phases, defined by how far the Sun is below the horizon: civil (down to −6°, you can still read outside), nautical (−6° to −12°, the sea horizon is visible) and astronomical (−12° to −18°, the sky becomes fully dark).
How is the sunrise time calculated?
From the town’s latitude and longitude, the date and the Sun’s position (declination and the equation of time). Sunrise and sunset are taken at −0.833° below the horizon, which accounts for atmospheric refraction and the radius of the solar disc.
Why does sunrise differ from one city to another?
Because of longitude (more easterly towns see the Sun earlier) and latitude (which changes day length with the season). That is why sunrise in Iași differs from Timișoara by a few minutes.
Is daylight saving time taken into account?
Yes. Times are shown in the town’s real time zone (IANA, e.g. Europe/Bucharest), which automatically includes the switch to summer and winter time, so the result is correct at any time of year.
What is solar noon?
It is the moment the Sun reaches its highest point in the sky. It does not coincide with 12:00 on the clock: it shifts with longitude and the equation of time, sometimes by 15–20 minutes.
How long are the longest and shortest days?
The longest day is at the summer solstice (around 21 June) and the shortest at the winter solstice (around 21 December). In Bucharest the day ranges from about 9 hours in winter to over 15 hours in summer.
What is the “golden hour” for photography?
It is the short window just after sunrise and before sunset, when the light is warm and soft. It starts roughly at sunrise / ends at sunset and lasts until the Sun climbs to about 6° — close to civil twilight.
Can I pick any town in Romania or another country?
Yes. You can select any county and town in Romania, and any city in other countries — the database covers the whole world, with coordinates for each place.
What is the sunrise and sunset calculator used for?
Photography (golden and blue hour), farming, fishing and hunting, outdoor sports, trip planning, and also prayer times or religious fasts tied to sunrise and sunset.
